Originally from Chilhowie, Virginia, Steven now lives and teaches in Bristol, Virginia.

Steven was the art teacher at High Point Elementary School for 16 years, and is now one of the art teachers at John S. Battle High School, both a part of Washington County Virginia Public Schools.

Steven labels himself an illustrator because of the graphic, bold style of his work. Many of his pieces are intended to bring a sense of joy or laughter to the viewer. Also, many of his pieces tell personal stories from his life growing up in rural Appalachia.

When not teaching or painting, you can usually find Steven on the riverbank bass fishing or tending to his extensive plant collection.
